Manual Therapies
Manual Therapy
Dr. Ryan combines Eastern practices of acupressure, cupping and gua sha (scraping) with Western osteopathic manual therapies, such as craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, trigger point therapy, and myofascial treatment.
Manual therapy is bodywork that releases restrictions and restores function to the musculoskeletal system. It enhances the flow of qi, blood and cerebrospinal fluid to improve organ function, dissolve stress and align the spine. Like acupuncture, subtle forms of manual therapy work at the interface of mind-body and thus many physical diseases with an emotional component can be managed or resolved from this type of care.
Conditions Treated
Manual therapy is used in combination with acupuncture and herbal medicine for a variety of issues including:
PAIN RELIEF: Providing immediate long-term relief from acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain, TMJ, surgical complications leading to post-operative abdominal pain, sports injuries, trauma, herniated spinal disks, repetitive motion strain, cervical spondylosis with nerve pain (radiculopathy); restoring alignment, range of motion and ease of movement
DIGESTION: Restoring normal GI organ functions and motility, especially after trauma and from post-operative scarring and adhesions — visceral manipulation is particularly useful
EMOTIONAL BALANCE: Balancing mental-emotional states; reducing anxiety and depression; reducing stress and insomnia; restoring peace of mind — craniosacral therapy is especially effective
