Introduction

Dr. Paul Ryan is a master of acupuncture with over 20 years of professional experience - in China and New York. He has successfully treated a wide range of diseases and conditions from painful injuries to chronic diseases, from stress and insomnia to depression and anxiety, from seasonal allergies to asthma, and from infertility to difficult menopause.

Acupuncture is a safe and virtually painless procedure performed with very thin, sterile, disposable needles that energize specific meridian points and facilitate the flow of qi (chi) by increasing circulation to stimulate healing and restore the natural function of various organs and systems in the body. Scientific research shows its effects can be seen in the central nervous system, vascular system, immune system, muscular system and fascial networks.

Acupuncture has been used for over 2,000 years and is one of the core treatment modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and has become quite widely used in the West.

Training

Dr. Ryan received his acupuncture training in China where he lived and worked for 18 years, and was the first Westerner to earn a master’s degree from the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine specializing in acupuncture and manual therapy.

He accumulated abundant clinical experience both as an independent clinician and as an acupuncture specialist at the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

He is the only Western apprentice of two acupuncture masters in China: Dr. Bo Zhi-yun, founder of Abdominal Acupuncture; and Dr. Zuo Chang-bo, founder of Zuo’s Taoist Alchemy Acupuncture. These lineages are rarely seen in the West, and he uses them at the highest level available. He is often invited to teach at acupuncture schools in the United States and around the world and frequently has students observing in his clinic.

While in China, he immersed himself in mind-body cultivation through internal martial arts, qi gong and Chan (Zen) meditation. He continues to cultivate his practice in his daily life.
